Euphrasia rostkoviana subsp. rostkoviana
status

(b) Subsp. rostkoviana :

Stem with up to 5(—12) pairs of branches. Cauline internodes mostly not more than 3 times as long as the leaves. Lowest flower at node (3-)6-10(-14). Lower floral leaves up to 15 mm, deltate to oblong-ovate. Corolla (6-5—)8—12 mm. Capsule 4-5 mm, not longer than the calyx. In = 22. Meadows and pastures. Throughout the range of the species.

Plants from Finland and N. Russia which have rather small, oblong, closely-toothed leaves and often fewer branches and smaller corolla (6-5-9 mm) than plants from C. Europe, have been distinguished as E. fennica Kihlman , Meddel. Soc. Fauna FI. Fenn. 24: 92 (1901). Early-flowering variants from the same area, also with small corollas, have been further separated as E. onegensis Cajander , Meddel. Soc. Fauna FI. Fenn.27:101(1901). There is continuous gradation between these plants and more normal representatives of subsp. rostkoviana .
