Remarks. It was described from Australia ( Sars 1885) and may be composed of a series of closely related species ( Kořínek 2002). Daphniopsis sumanae Rane, 1986 is a junior synonym of Daphnia lumholtzi Sars, 1885 (Sharma B.K. & Sharma S. 1990). Nandi & Das (2003) reported this species from brackishwater wetlands of West Bengal. Das et al. (1981), Kanaujia (1983), Raghunathan (1992), Bhattacharya et al. (1997) studied the biology of this species.
Distribution. “Africa, Australasia, Asia” ( Benzie 2005), also introduced to North and South America ( Sorensen & Sterner 1992; Zanata et al. 2003).

Type locality. "Pariat tank about 10 kms East of Jabalpur on the Amarkantak road, Jabalpur district ", Madhya Pradesh, India (Rane & Jarfi 1990) .

Remarks. Junior synonym of D. similis . It is necessary to underline, that D. madhuriae bears similis -like, not similoides -like characters (compare Hudec 1991 and Rane & Jarfi 1990).
