(68) Eurycercus lamellatus (O. F. Müller, 1776) View in CoL s.lat.

Indian records. Jammu & Kashmir — Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988); Sikkim —Venkataraman (2001); General record— Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003) .

Remarks. Valid species described from Denmark ( Müller 1776). Indian records need to be checked. The only note that the specimens of Michael and Sharma B.K. (1988) have a "dorsal keel present; head keel absent", provides evidence of them belonging to the E. lamellatus -like populations ( Bekker et al. 2012). Records lacking any supporting illustrations could belong even to other subgenera, as it was found in South America ( Bekker et al. 2010). Status of Eurycercus sp. in Fernando and Kanduru (1984) is also unknown. At the same time, Venkataraman (2001) apparently represented illustrations of descriptions of Eurycercus cf. lamellatus .

Distribution. E. lamellatus is widely distributed in the Palaearctic ( Frey 1971; Smirnov 1971; Bekker et al. 2012), similar forms were found in the Neotropics, but it can be a case of introduction due to human activity ( Bekker et al. 2010). Records from South Africa apparently belong to another, yet undescribed, species, undescribed yet ( Frey 1993a). In any case, it is hitherto unclear which Eurycercus actually is found in India and if there are one or more species in the country.
