Remarks. C. sphaericus (O. F. Müller, 1776) s. str. is a valid Palaearctic taxon, described from Denmark (O.F. Müller 1776). This complex is cosmopolitan, but even in the Holarctic there are several separate phylogroups which could be regarded as separate species—they could be recognized using male characters, but no helpful taxonomic traits have been found in parthenogenetic females ( Belyaeva & Taylor 2009).
Contributions to the biology of this species were made by Khan (1983a).
Distribution. Cosmopolitan species complex.
