HOLOTYPE: AMNH 219711 About AMNH , adult male, collected on Pavuvu Island , 09.10S, 159.07E ( Times Atlas ), Russell Group (5 Pavuvu Islands), Solomon Islands, on 4 (not 24) August 1927, by Rollo H. Beck on the Whitney South Sea Expedition (no. 27241). GoogleMaps

COMMENTS: The AMNH number of the holotype was given in the original description ; however, the date was incorrectly cited. Later , Mayr (1936: 18) gave a more detailed description of this form, noting that he had specimens from Pavuvu , Banika , Mote , and Kiomie islands. The paratypes are: AMNH 217913–217921 About AMNH , 219702–219710 About AMNH , 225861 About AMNH , 225863 About AMNH , 226075–226079 About AMNH , 226082–226086 About AMNH , and 226161, all collected between 30 July and 5 August 1927. AMNH 225863 About AMNH is the melanistic specimen mentioned by Mayr (1936: 19) .
