New record. CANADA, British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Upper Carmanah Valley, forest floor, Malaise trap, 30.IX.–16.X.1991, N. Winchester, 1 male (CNC).
Discussion. Claustropyga simplicis was previously known only from the holotype and three paratype males from Ontario. The new specimen from British Columbia differs from the types by having some of the ventral setae of the gonocoxa shorter and curved, resembling the setae of some other species of Claustropyga , e.g. C. sajanica (Mohrig & Antonowa) , and by having sharp-angled lateral shoulders on the tegmen, not dissimilar to some other species of Claustropyga , e.g. C. sajanica and C. ctenophora . So far as the latter character is concerned, the difference between the new specimen and the holotype (cf. Hippa, Vilkamaa and Mohrig 2003) is rather striking, but we believe that it is because the aedeagus-tegmen complex is not in an identical position on the mounts. A similar variation is also known in some other species, e.g. C. ctenophora (cf. Hippa, Vilkamaa and Mohrig 2003, Fig. 11). Except for the slight difference in the character of the ventral setae mentioned above, the gonostylus is identical in the types and the British Columbia specimen, and we are rather certain that they all belong to same species.
