Perdita (Perdita) perpallida Cockerell, 1901 View in CoL View at ENA

Perdita perpallida Cockerell, 1901: 190 View in CoL

♁ ♀. Lectotype, designated herein. ♀ USA, Nebraska, Neligh [Cockerell reports the locality as “Lehigh”], deposited at the University of Nebraska State Museum. Label reads: “Neligh Neb / July Cary // Perdita / perpallida / Ckll. / ♀ COTYPE n sp // [red label] LECTOTYPE / ♀ Perdita perpallia / Cockerell, 1901 / Des. Portman”. The lectotype specimen is missing most of the abdomen. Examined by ZP.

= Perdita citrinella Graenicher, 1910: 103 View in CoL

♁ [not ♀] (syn. nov.). Holotype. ♁ [not ♀] USA, Wisconsin, St. Croix Co., North Hudson , 13 Aug 1909, No. 30389 (MPM ENT6384 View Materials ). Images examined by ZP.

Counties: Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, Stearns, Traverse, Wabasha, Washington.

Comments: Perdita citrinella , which has been considered a subspecies of P. perpallida by Timberlake (1960) and Mitchell (1960), is merely an example of intraspecific color variation, not a distinct taxon. The type specimen of P. citrinella is a male, not a female as indicated on the label and by Graenicher (1910). Perdita perpallida ranges from Alberta, Canada in the north to New Mexico, USA in the south. Examination of specimens and dissection of the male terminalia by ZP from the limits of the range of this species show no morphological differences, though the extent of dark coloration is quite variable.
