Male. Colour. Head light brown, face somewhat paler. Scape, pedicel yellowish, flagellar segments brown. Clypeus, mouthparts pale yellowish. Thorax light brown. Legs yellowish, apical third of hind femur brownish, tarsi appear brown due to dense trichia. Wing with light brownish tinge due to microtrichia; halter yellowish, knob brown. Abdomen brown, sternites and lateral tergites lighter. All vestiture pale, yellowish or brownish, thicker setae and trichia appear darker than finer ones. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4 1.5–1.6 times as long as wide. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 3 apically curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment; palpomere 5 ca. 1.2 times longer than palpomere 4. Nine strong postocular setae. Thorax. Anepisternum with 31–35 setae; anterior basalare non-setose, laterotergite with 10–14 setae, preepisternum 2 non-setose; metepisternum with 4–8 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R 1 meeting C within basal half of costal margin; sclerotized part of M 2 not extending to level of tip of R 1; wing length 1.4–1.5 mm. Hypopygium ( Figs 3 View FIGURE 3 A–D). Sternite 9 laterally free from gonocoxa, extending to the middle between bases of gonocoxa and gonostylus, posterior margin with a wide concavity, anterior margin with deep U-shaped incision, posterior half with setae similar to those on ventral side of gonocoxa. Ventral medial margin of gonocoxa straight. Parastylar lobe membranous, covered by ventral medial margin of gonocoxa, with two setae. No paraapodemal lobe identifiable. A medially directed thin finger-like and curved process anterior to the parastylar lobe, partly covered by ventral medial margin of gonocoxa. Dorsal medial margin of gonocoxa simple, bulging medially, posterior third with membranous, plate-like lobe on more ventral level bearing aggregation of 10–12 short, fine setae on anterior portion and two twisted megasetae arising from their own basal bodies (visible dorsally from juxtagonostylar megasetae) on posterior portion. Dorsal medial margin of gonocoxa with submarginal row of setae with prominent basal bodies. Gonocoxa drawn laterally into a setose lobe about half length of the basal part of gonocoxa. Two juxtagonostylar seta present: dorsal one a dilated, roundish megaseta, with apical whip-like part; the ventral one a sigmoid megaseta, with basal half flattened and apical half slender. Ventral juxtagonostylar megaseta is longer than dorsal one, both megasetae arising from a common basal body about half as long as the ventral megaseta. Gonostylus complex, drawn out into anteromedial and posterior finger-like lobes, both with apical, stout, curved seta, lateral margin subapically with additional small lobe, bearing similar apical seta, at medial margin with two smaller setae. Aedeagus elongated subtriangle, without lateral shoulders, apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct extending posteriorly near to middle of gonostylus, number of ventral setae (sternite 10) ca. 15 on each half. Cerci medially separated, setae scattered over the surface, apical 4–5 setae longer than the rest of cercal setae.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. The name is Latin, corniculata [equipped with horns], referring to the two twisted megasetae, which look like horns, ventrally from the posterior portion of dorsal medial margin of the gonocoxa (on slides discernible dorsally from the juxtagonostylar megasetae).

Comments. Manota corniculata sp. n. runs to couplet 19 (to M. lamasi Kurina, Hippa & Amorim, 2018 ) in the key to Neotropical Manota by Kurina et al. (2018) because of setose laterotergite, non-setose anterior basalare, posterolateral lobe of gonocoxa being about half length of the more basal part of gonocoxa, not elongated gonostylus and posterolateral lobe of gonocoxa being without megasetae. It differs from M. lamasi by: (1) sternite 9 posteriorly widely concave (rounded in M. lamasi ), (2) gonostylus complex drawn out into anteromedial and posterior fingerlike lobes (bilobed with subquadrangular ventral lobe in M. lamasi ), and (3) both juxtagonostylar megasetae with slender and pointed apical part (one juxtagonostylar megaseta apically widened, bill-shaped in M. lamasi ). By the general structure of terminalia, M. corniculata is also similar to M. aligera Hippa, Kurina & Sääksjärvi, 2017 . The latter was incorrectly keyed out by Kurina et al. (2018). Because of the setose laterotergite, short posterolateral lobe of gonocoxa and details of sternite 9, M. aligera must run to couplet 23 (cf. Kurina et al. 2018). Manota corniculata , M. aligera and M. lamasi are distinguished from other Neotropical species by a submarginal row of setae with prominent basal bodies along the dorsal medial margin of gonocoxite (cf. Hippa et al. 2017: fig. 3 B; Kurina et al. 2018: fig. 7 A).
