FAO name: Green back mullet
Material examined. 30 specimens of 129–251 mm TL.
Diagnosis. Greenish body dorsally with 4–7 longitudinal stripes on upper rows of longitudinal scales Body depth at first dorsal fin origin is 25–29% of SL, 22–26% of SL at origin of anal fin and 12–14% of SL at caudal peduncle. First dorsal fin origin nearer to base of caudal fin or midway between them. Second dorsal fin originates 1/3 posterior to anal fin base at vertical. Pectoral fin 70–81% of head length and 18–22% of SL. Scale numbers: 26–33 scales in longitudinal series and 9–11 scales in transverse series.
Description. Body moderately robust but not deep. Head broad, wide and dorsally flattened; head length is greater than its width and is 23–27% of SL. Eye diameter is 21–30% of HL. Snout blunt and smaller than eye diameter. Adipose eye fold partially developed. Terminal mouth, thin lips, lower lip directed forward. Maxilla tip visible from the corner of closed mouth. Narrow pre-orbital bone, partially fills space between lip and eye. Pectoral fin I, 15–16 rays, not reaching to the level of 1 st dorsal fin. Pectoral axillary scale is either rudimentary or absent.
Color. Dorsally dark green and laterally silvery to whitish ventrally, 4–7 longitudinal stripes on upper rows of longitudinal scales, pectoral fin dull green to yellowish, light green to greyish dorsal fin, anal and ventral fins dull yellow, bluish caudal fin with black margin.
