Potemnemus kaszabi ( Breuning, 1973: 16) View in CoL
Figs. 32, 33 View FIGURES 31 – 36 , 81 View FIGURE 81 .
Spinopotemnemus kaszabi Breuning, 1973 View in CoL (synonymized by Slipiñski & Escalona, 2013)
Examined type specimen. HT ♀ NHMUS (photo examination), BL = 40.0 mm, Australia, Queensland, 1962, leg. Hejja.
Morphological characteristics: a large and robust species (BL = 40.0 mm) with body approximately 2.8 x longer than wide ( Figs. 32, 33 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Dorsally the species is brownish and mottled greyish. Antennae: both are broken in the HT female, but it seems likely that the antennae are extending beyond apices by at least 3–4 antennomeres. Thorax: pronotum is densely covered with very small black spots: consisting of glabrous granules with the black integument exposed. Pronotum medially has a light brown patch of pubescence. There is a longitudinal narrow and whitish band across the brown spot on pronotum with a glabrous spot medially on pronotum. The lateral spines on pronotum are very large. There are two small and raised tubercles medially on pronotum. Elytra: mottled: brownish, yellowish and whitish with epipleuron of similar colours, and a light brown patch on elytra surrounding scutellum. Lateral carina is weakly granulated. Elytra are densely covered with very small black spots: consisting of glabrous granules exposing the black integument. Lateral carina on elytra and epipleuron each with a few, small granules ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Venter: prosternal process with a large and rounded tubercle anteriorly. Mesosternum, and abdominal ventrites, weakly mottled with a mixture of short brownish and yellowish pubescence.
Remarks. This species is most similar to P. pristis , especially regarding the numerous small black spots on pronotum, but is easily separated by the strongly mottled elytral surface covered with very fine black spots, and lateral carina being only weakly granulated. P. k as z ab i is only known from the HT ♀ collected in Queensland, Australia ( Fig. 81 View FIGURE 81 ).
