Type species: Asilus chrysitis Meigen, 1820 Meigen (1820: 310) . [des. Coquillett (1910: 564)]. —Allomachimus Bequaert, 1964 Bequaert (1964:1): as a subgenus of Machimus Loew, 1849 . Type species: Machimus (Allomachimus) barcelonicus Bequaert, 1964 Bequaert (1964: 6) .

The external male genitalia are generalized, but can be differentiated by the gonostylus. The cercus is free, not embedded into tergite 9 as in Eutolmus . The two species of South Korean Machimus are easily distinguished by their color and seasonality.
