Pedioxestis concaviuscula , sp. n.

( Figs. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 , 7 View FIGURES 5 – 8 , 10 View FIGURES 9 – 12 )

Type material. Holotype: ɗ, China: Luoshan (32°12'N, 114°31'E), Henan Province, 21.v.2000, coll. Haili Yu, genitalia slide No. W05104. Paratypes: 16 ɗ, 15 Ψ, 21–23.v.2000, other same data as holotype; 1 ɗ, Jiyuan, Henan, 4.vi.2000, coll. Meicai Wei.

Diagnosis. This new species is similar to P. ferruginea in facies and genitalia, but can be distinguished from it by having the body smaller, the uncus concave on the posterior margin medially, the sacculus without a distinct distal process, and the saccus shorter than the valva. In P. ferruginea , the body is larger, the uncus is pointed posteriorly, the sacculus has a distal process, and the saccus is longer than the valva.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ): Wing expanse 11.5–12.5 mm. Head whitish yellowish to ocherous yellow, with appressed scales. Labial palpus yellow. Antenna yellow, flagellum ringed with brown. Thorax, tegula, and forewing uniformly grayish-bronze brown. Forewing pointed at apex; cilia grayish brown. Hindwing brown; cilia grayish brown. Legs yellowish white except tarsi ocherous brown distally. Abdomen dark grayish brown.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ): Uncus large, somewhat rectangular, laterally with strong setae along basal 2/3; distal 1/3 slightly narrowed, slightly concave at middle of posterior margin. Gnathos broadly tongue-shaped, broad at base, narrowed to bluntly rounded apex, with strong scobinations distally. Valva moderate, basal portion slightly broader than distal portion, distal half setose; costa concave near base; apex rounded. Sacculus with base broad and projected dorsally, narrowed to about middle of valva; distal half conspicuously narrowed, not clearly separated from valva, extending to end of valva. Saccus elongate, about 2/3 as long as valva; broad at base, narrowed to rounded apex. Juxta moderate in size, longitudinally divided into two parts distally from middle, forming two irregularly triangular plates, pointed distally. Aedeagus as long as valva, straight, and parallel-sided from near base to near apex, distally pointed; cornutus a large, sclerotized thorn.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9 – 12 ): Papillae anales rounded caudally. Apophyses anteriores slightly shorter than apophyses posteriores. Lamella postvaginalis somewhat triangular, with large setae; posterior margin sclerotized, forming a narrow band, slightly concave inward, laterally producing into small rounded process; ostium bursae large, with dense microtrichia; antrum short, sclerotized only laterally. Ductus bursae longer than corpus bursae, posterior 2/5 narrower than anterior 3/5. Corpus bursae ovate, with small teeth; signum somewhat ovate, with dense teeth.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin concaviusculus, meaning slightly concave, referring to the caudal margin of uncus.
