Materialexamined – Femaleholotype: CostaRica , Cartago, nearTuis, 3000 feet, 16–22 July 1993, leg. W. J. Hanson. – Holotype is in good condition: (1) glued direct to the pin by the side side of head and mesosoma, (2) right gena (of head) and right side of mesosoma invisibleowingtothemounting. HolotypeisdepositedinHNHM, Hym. Typ. No. 12233.

Etymology – ThenewspeciesreceivedtheLatinname “curtulus” (=short) referingto the short alar vein 1–R1 (cf. Fig. 146).

Description of the female holotype – Body 2.3 mm long. Antenna short, as long as head, mesosomaandhalfcarapacecombined, with 16 antennomeres. Scape 2.7 timesaslongas broadapically, firstflagellomere 3.2 timesaslongasbroad, penultimate 8–13 flagellom- erescubic (cf. Fig. 134 View Figs 128–139 ). – Headindorsalviewtransverse, twiceasboadaslong, eye 2.3 timeslongerthantemple, templereceded (Fig. 154). OOL 1.5 timesaslongasPOL. Eyein lateralviewtwiceashighaswide, genabeyondeyefaintlybroadeningventrally, aswide aseye, polished (Fig. 155). Clypeus 1.6 timesaswidebelowashighmedially, itslower margintruncate, polished, laterallyuneven (cf. Fig. 434 View Figs 428–439 ). Facefinelysubstriolate, shiny. Headabovepolished.

Mesosomainlateralview 1.4 timesaslongashigh. Mesoscutum, scutellumandmesopleuronrugose. Propodeumareolate- rugose, withouttransversecarina (Fig. 156). Hind femur 3.5 timesaslongasbroadmedially. Hindtibiathickening, distallyasbroadasfemur (cf. Fig. 165). Hindbasitarsusaslongastarsomeres 2–3 combined.

Forewingalmostaslongasbody. Pterostigma 2.5 timesaslongaswide, issuing r fromitsmiddle, 1–R1 short, half (0.5 times) aslongaspterostigma, 3–SR justlongerthan r (9:8), SR1 bent (cf Fig. 146).

Carapaceindorsalview 1.75 timesaslongasbroadposteriorly, basallysomewhat narrowing, longitudinallystriated, itsdowncurvedhindfourthpolished (Fig. 158). Cara- paceinlateralviewweaklycurved, 3.8 timesaslongashighposteriorly, apico-ventrally withaverysmalltubercule (Fig. 159 seearrow). Carapaceapico-ventrallysomewhatin- curved (Fig. 160). Ovipositorsheathshort, concealed.

Bodydarkcoloured. Scapeandpedicelochre, flagellumdarkbrown. Headdarkbrown, palpibrown. Mesosomablackishbrown, pronotumdarkrusty. Carapacedarkbrown. Legs brown, hindcoxadarkbrown, forelegochre. Wingshyaline, pterostigmabrown, veinslight brown.

Maleandhostunknown.

Distribution – Costa Rica.

Taxonomic position – The new species, Microchelonus curtulus , is closest to M. fulgens sp. n., thedistinctionbetweenthetwospeciesispresentedinthe keytothefemale Microchelonus species , seecouplets 13 (10) – 15 (14). – Also nearto M. politus sp. n., theirseparationseeat M. politus .
