Hebrus pusillus arabicus Linnavuori, 1971 View in CoL
( Fig. 71 View FIGURE 71 )
Hebrus pusillus arabicus Linnavuori, 1971: 364 View in CoL . Holotype: ♂, Yemen, Wadi Kebir near Lahej ( NMWC).
Material examined. IRAN: Hormozgan: Isin (Loc. No. 198), 11.–15. iv.1973, 1 ♀, Exp. Nat . Mus . Praha, E. Kanyukova 2006 det. as H. montanus, P. Kment det. ( NMPC) . OMAN: Nakhl, Wadi Mistal , 24. iii.1997, 3 Ƌ 1 ♀, E. Heiss lgt., P. Kment det. ( EHIA, NMPC) .
Distribution ( Fig. 71 View FIGURE 71 ). Asia: Iran: Hormozgan ( Kment & Kanyukova 2010, as H. montanus ), Iraq ( Linnavuori 1986, 1994), Oman (new record), Saudi Arabia ( Linnavuori 1986), United Arab Emirates (Linnavuori et al. 2011), Yemen ( Brown 1951, as H. pusillus var. rufescens ; Linnavuori 1971; Linnavuori & van Harten 1997, 2002). Afrotropical Region: Sudan (Port Sudan on Red Sea Coast) ( Linnavuori 1986). New species for Iran and Oman.
Comments. Linnavuori (1971) illustrated only parameres of the new subspecies based on Yemeni specimens. Linnavuori (1986) provided illustrations of metanotal elevations, hemelytron and paramere of specimens from Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and compared the subspecies to Near East populations ascribed by him as H. pusillus pusillus . However, using the key by Kanyukova (1997, 2006), H. pusillus arabicus with pale yellowish legs, would run to H. montanus , although the pilosity of the male metatibia is more similar to that of H. pusillus pusillus . The relationship and subspecific status of H. pusillus arabicus and the nominotypical H. pusillus pusillus is worthy of re-examination; H. pusillus arabicus possibly deserves specific rank.
