Distribution. Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, Azores, Antarctica, South Africa, W-Africa, Tristan da Cunha, Seychelles, Zanzibar, Comores, Madagascar, Mozambique, Philippines, Australia, Hawaii, off Oregon, California.
Depth range. 225–3914 m.
Habitat. Meso- to bathypelagic.
Iberian Seas published records. Off Portugal, 41º37'N – 12º36'W ( Tattersall 1955). Off Canary Archipelago ( Wittmann et al. 2004, Haroun & Garrido 2003, Wittmann & Riera 2012). South of Canary Islands ( Tattersall 1955) . Madeira ( Wittmann & Riera 2012) . Azores ( Nouvel 1943, Tattersall 1955, Meland & Aas 2013). Atlantic coast of Morocco ( Furnestin 1957, De Jong & Casanova 1997a).
Remarks. According to Childress & Price (1978), a life span of eigth years is plausible for this species.
