Description
Body cylindrical. Head black, clypeus blackish, mouth parts and basal four antennomeres more or less light brownish, fifth to tenth antennomeres blackish. Pronotum fulvous with a broad central stripe from anterior margin to posterior one, anterior margin of the stripe broad, anterior two-thirds of the stripe with nearly equal width, then widened. Scutellum black, sometimes with orange apex. Elytra fulvous, each elytron with three transverse bands: one broad, covering humerus, but not reaching suture; second situated at one-third, touching suture; third at two-thirds, narrower than the second one; also with a broad stripe from base to apex laterally, which generally connected with the three transverse bands. Underside of body black, propleura fulvous; coxae and trochanters of all legs black, other parts of legs brownish, outer margin of tibiae blackish.
Head small, vertex moderately convex, impunctate. Eyes moderate. Frons narrow, 1.4 times as wide as the diameter of the eye (about half of maximal width of the head) in male; surface irregularly punctured; and three impressions placed triangularly: one deep and round, the others shallower and long; clypeus with sparse punctures, anterior margin feebly incised. Labrum slightly incised at anterior margin, with pubescence; mandibles short. Antennae extending to base of pronotum, all antennomeres except third thickly pubescent; first antennomere oblong, second rounded, third round and very small, fourth triangular, fifth to tenth feebly serrate, last one suboval; length ratio of antennomeres 1.2: 0.5: 0.4: 0.6: 0.8: 0.9: 0.8: 0.8: 0.9: 0.8: 1.1.
Pronotum transverse, 1.9 times as wide as long, widest at two-thirds, feebly convex, slightly depressed near posterior angles; lateral margins narrowly bordered; anterior angles obtusely angular, posterior ones rounded; anterior margin nearly straight, sides rounded, posterior margin feebly lobed in the middle, the lobe nearly straight; surface of pronotum very finely punctured, basal middle with larger punctures. Scutellum triangular, very finely punctured, with a narrow and truncated apex.
Elytra 1.4 times as long as wide, nearly parallel-sided; feebly lobed below shoulders; surface covered with large and deep punctures, interstices smaller than a puncture diameter at basal part, the punctures becoming sparser laterally and posteriorly, disappearing in posterior one-fifth. Epipleura about one-third of elytral length. Pygidium partly free, apex narrowly rounded.
Underside and legs thickly clothed with short silvery pubescence; tarsi moderate, length ratio of protarsomeres 1.5: 0.9: 0.2: 2.1.
Aedeagus light brown, apex broad, feebly emarginated, underside with sparse pubescence at one-fifth, each lateral margin with an obvious tooth.
Female. Body more robust; frons broader, 1.5 times as wide as the diameter of the eye (about 0.6 times of maximal width of the head); pygidium exposed, apex slightly truncated; legs more slender; spermatheca moderate, basal part moderately inflated, apex acute, spermathecal duct pale and thin, irregularly coiled more than 10 times, base thicker; ventral rectal sclerites large, dorsal central sclerite split into three small sclerites; lateral sclerites large, with obtuse corners.
Measurement
Male: 4.9 mm, females: 5.2–5.8 mm.
Etymology
The specific epithet is a combination of Latin words bi- and dentata, and refers to the teeth at lateral margins.
Distribution
China (Sichuan).
Remarks
Aetheomorpha bidentata sp. nov. is close to A. taiwana Chûjô , but the new species is characterized by the pronotal stripe with a broader anterior margin, the aedeagus with obvious teeth, and the interval between the teeth as great as posterior part of the aedeagus.
