Material examined. None.

First record for Brazil. Alagoas ( Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1993).

Distribution. Western Atlantic: Bermudas, Florida, Dry Tortugas, Yucatan, Venezuela and Brazil (Pernambuco and Alagoas) ( Chace 1970; Rhyne & Lin 2006; Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1993; Coelho et al. 2006) ( Fig. 16 ).

Ecology. Poorly known, deep-water species, depth range: 28–119 m ( Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1993; Rhyne & Lin 2006).

Remarks. Lysmata rathbunae is a species found in relatively deep waters, ranging from 28 to 119 m ( Rhyne & Lin 2006), and is readily recognised by its very long rostrum, which overreaches the antennular peduncle. The species was first recorded in Brazil by Ramos-Porto & Coelho (1993), based on material collected at 28 m depth off the coast of Alagoas. In Coelho et al. (2006) ’s checklist, the species is also listed from Pernambuco, presumably based on specimens deposited in the collection of the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil (UFPE).
