Friesea shaanxiensis sp. nov.
( Fig. 1–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 )
Material examined. Holotype 1 female, northwest China, Shaanxi Province, Guangtou Mountain, 2800 km, litterrich soil in forest of Larix chinensis , 20 /7 /2003, Huan Yin.
Description. Colour: pale. Length: 600 µm. Cuticle with fine granulation.
Head ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ): 8+8 ocelli. Eye patches with scattered black pigment. Cephalic diagonal length 158 µm. Antenna shorter than cephalic diagonal, ratio of antenna to head as 0.5; length ratio of Ant. I: II: III+IV as 1: 0.9: 1.9. Ant. I with 7, ant. II with 13 ordinary setae. Ant. III organ normal, apical with 2 sensory rods and 2 long sensillae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Ant. IV dorsal with 6 blunt sensillae, 1 microsensillum (ms) and 1 internalsetae (i) and ventral with about 10 microsetae; apical bulb simple (after Deharveng & Bedos, 1991). Ant. III– IV stocky. Maxilla typical for the genus. Labral setae 2/2, 5, 3 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Labium as in Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , labial triangle with 7 setae on each half.
Body: Setae all simple, thin, subequal in length, of moderate size even on abd. V–VI; ssetae 1.3 to 2.2 times as long as ordinary mesochaetae. Dorsal axial setae pairs as 1, 2, 2/ 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2. Seta a2 absent on th. IIIabd. III. Abd. V with 2+2 setae between ssetae. Six annal spines subequal in length, as long as unguis ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ).
Dorsal chaetotaxy: as illustrated in Fig. 2–4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 . Area frontalis of head with median setae “d”. Th. I with 4+4 setae. Seta a2 present on Th. II and absent on Th. III; Th. II and III respectively with 2 sensillae p3 and p6 on each side. Abd. I–IV with sensillum p4. Abd. V without a2, with a long sensillum p2 ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Tergite chaetotaxy as follows:
Di De Dl L
Th. I 1 2 _ 1
Th. II 4 2+s 2+s 2
Th. II 3 2+s 2+s 2
Abd. I 3 2+ s 2 1
Abd. II 3 2+ s 2 1
Abd. III 3 2+ s 2 1
Ventral chaetotaxy: Head with 2+2 setae along ventral line. Ventral tube with 4 setae on each half. Furca and tenaculm absent. Genital apertures of female with 8 setae ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Anal lobes as in Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , with 3 highreduced (hr) setae on each half.
Tibiotarsi I, II and III with 16, 16 and 15 setae respectively, with 3 clavate tenent hairs of each. Unguis length 16µm, without inner teeth; unguiculus reduced to a small protuberance ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ).
Remarks. This species resembles Friesea ladeiroi da Gama, 1959; Friesea xitlensis PalaciosVargas & Acosta, 1994 and Friesea carlota Christiansen & Bellinger, 1988 in anal spines, 8+8 ocelli and lacking furca and tenaculum. However, it differs from Friesea ladeiroi in claws ( F. ladeiroi with one inner tooth of each claw, after Massoud, 1967) and differs from Friesea xitlensis and carlota in capitate setae of abd. V and VI ( F. xitlensis with 4 capitate setae of abd. VI, PalaciosVargas & VidalAcosta, 1994; F. carlota with a pair of long and capitate setae of each, Christiansen & Bellinger, 1998).
Etymology. The name of the new species is after the locality of types, Shaanxi Province.
