status

Genus Rhinotamides Olsson, 1944

Type species: Rhinotamides rudis, 1944 , by monotypy. Late Campanian, northern Peru.

Remarks

Olsson (1944) noted the presence of a columellar fold on Tortuga Formation specimens of Rhinotamides rudis Olsson, 1944 , but the fold is not evident in his figures nor in specimens collected from Tortuga by Steffen Kiel (written communication, 23 December 2017). Specimens from the Caballas Formation also lack a columellar fold; the very short columella is terminated at its anterior end with a sharp keel that forms the posterior margin of the abaxially twisted anterior canal.
