Grapsus albolineatus Latreille, in Milbert, 1812 View in CoL
Material examined. One male (69.6 x 54.5mm) (DABFUK), Kilton, 20 October 2014.
Remarks. This species was observed in all 10 islands, viz. Agatti, Kavaratti, Minicoy, Amini, Chetlat, Androth, Bitra, Kilton, Kalpeni and Kadamat. It can, however, be confused with the similar G. tenuicrustatus (Herbst, 1783) , but easily separated by a number of frontal margin, cheliped and male pleonal differences: the frontal margin is smooth and entire (serrated in G. tenuicrustatus ); the chelae have a purple tinge, and the inner angle of the cheliped carpus has an acutely triangular tooth (chelae dark brown, and inner angle of cheliped carpus has a broader tooth with a subtruncate base in G. tenuicrustatus ); the sixth pleonal somite is shorter than the fifth (sixth pleonal somite longer than the fifth in G. tenuicrustatus ) (viz. Banerjee 1960; Ng 1998).
