Occurs widely in tropical and subtropical areas of South America and the Caribbean, introduced to the Canary Islands ( Spain); polyphagous, feeding on plants belonging to 37 families; a serious pest of Citrus and ornamentals. Recorded from Saint Lucia by Williams & Granara de Willink (1992) and Malumphy (2012, on an unspecified plant.)
