Type-locality. Fazenda Salvamento, Roraima, Brazil.

Distribution and habitat. Gymnophthalmus leucomystax is endemic to northern Amazonia , typical of the Lavrado area of the Guiana region, occurring in Brazil and Guyana ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ). In Brazil, it is only known from the state of Roraima. Gymnophthalmus leucomystax is sexually dimorphic, terrestrial, and diurnal, inhabits open vegetation areas (savannas), where it is found in termite nests (Vitt & Carvalho 1995) and at the edge of rock outcrops (Vitt et al. 1996).
