Tretioscincus oriximinensis Ávila-Pires, 1995

Type-locality. Oriximiná, Pará, Brazil.

Pertinent taxonomic references. Vanzolini & Rebouças-Spieker (1969), Ávila-Pires (1995), Pellegrino et al. (2001), Castoe et al. (2004), Yonenaga-Yassuda et al. (2005), Goicoechea et al. (2016).

Distribution and habitat. Tretioscincus oriximinensis is endemic to Amazonia , with a patchy distribution north of the Amazon River, and south of it in the Madeira–Purus interfluvium ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ), occurring in Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amapá, Pará, Amazonas and Roraima. Until now the species was only known from the type-locality (Oriximiná municipality, state of Pará) and from northwestern Amazonia , between the Negro and Branco Rivers. Here we extend its distribution to new localities north of the Amazon River (e.g., in Amapá state), and to the Madeira–Purus interfluvium, south of it. These new data indicate a wider, but probably discontinuous and relictual distribution. Tretioscincus oriximinensis is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits primary open forest, open vegetation enclaves, and also perianthropic environments, where it is found among leaf litter and fallen palm leaves in forested areas, and grass and litter of open vegetation areas (Ávila-Pires 1995; Caldwell & Vitt 1999). Vanzolini & Rebouças-Spieker (1969) reported a large population of this species in the town of Oriximiná, both on vertical and horizontal substrates.
