Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19

Scalpellum abyssicola Hoek 1883: 114 , pl. VI, fig. 12; Stubbings, 1936: 20, fig. 8; Nilsson-Cantell, 1938: 7; Zevina, 1969: 67. Catherinium abyssicola: Zevina, 1981a: 251–252 , fig. 187.

Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1096 and additional specimen NHM UK 2013.1097, Stn 24: Pacific, North West (Middle of); 3752 m.

Supplementary description. Zevina (1981a).

Distribution. Pacific, Northwest and Eastern Central; Indian Ocean, Western. Known depth range 2000 to 5540 m.

Remarks. The second specimen ( Fig. 19B View FIGURE 19 ) was not listed or explicitly mentioned by Hoek (1883) in his original description of the species. The specimen is smaller, with the estimated capitulum length significantly less than the 8 mm stated by Hoek for the holotype. We, therefore, consider it to be additional material and not of paratype status.
