Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1137, Stn 169: Pacific, Southwest (East Cape, New Zealand); 1280 m. Supplementary descriptions. Young (2007) and Chan et al. (2009).

Distribution. Indian Ocean, Western and Eastern; Pacific, Western Central and Southwest. Known depth range 455 to 4800 m.

Habitat. On corals, sunken wood, siboglinid polychaetes.

Remarks. Nilsson-Cantell (1931) considered this species to be a synonym of Scalpellum flavum Hoek, 1883 (= Catherinium flavum ), but that awaits confirmation through detailed comparative study. Young (1998b) considered records of the species from the Atlantic to represent a new species, Verum parazelandiae .
