Saumella View in CoL sp.
(Pl. III: Fig. 18)
cf. 1985 Saumella sp.; Coen: pl. 9, fig. 20.
2013 Saumella sp.; Maillet: 155, pl. XXIII, fig. 18.
Material. 5 specimens (5 C).
Description. Medium-sized ovoidal carapace. Carapace almost symmetrical in lateral view. Pronounced overlap of the larger LV over the RV along whole outline. Marked bow-shaped projection. Hmax at 2/5 posterior; Lmax median; Wmax median. Regularly convex ventral and dorsal margins. Ventral and dorsal margin converging both anteriorly and posteriorly. Regularly convex and very arched anterior margin. Posterior margin convex in its dorsal part, oblique in its ventral part. In ventral view, extremities of the valves diverging, more especially posteriorly. Surface smooth.
Discussion. In ventral view, a particular posterior divergence of the extremities of the valves is observed, well reminding Saumella sp. in Coen (1985) from the Ardenne. However, is this single character enough determinant to assign all the specimens to the same species? The specimen figured by Coen was a juvenile; therefore, maybe ours also.
Occurrences. Middle Givetian (Candás Fm, mb C), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section).
