Material. 135 specimens (45 C, 54 V, 36 F).
Diagnosis. Becker (1971a, p. 45).
Description. Large almost equivalve carapace, sub-oval and slender posteriorly in lateral view. Hmax at 2/5 anterior; Lmax slightly ventral; Wmax anterior. Very arched dorsal margin, strongly oblique both anteriorly and posteriorly from Hmax. Rounded ventral margin, posteriorly oblique. Ventral and dorsal margins converging anteriorly and more especially posteriorly. Well rounded anterior margin. Convex, highly arched posterior margin. Anterior part of the carapace higher than the posterior one. Surface smooth. Longitudinal ventral “W”-shaped sulcus extending from antero-dorsal part to postero-dorsal part. Three vertical sulci below the dorsal margin, one median, one slightly anterior, one slightly posterior. Slight carina along the free margins of the valves.
Discussion. This subspecies, whose morphology is characteristic, is particularly abundant in the Givetian of Asturias. Morphological variation of the carapace was observed, with lobes varying from large and bulbous to very thin and forming tenuous ridges.
Occurrences. Lower Givetian to Lower Frasnian (Huergas Fm and Candás Fm, mbs B, C and D), Asturias (Peran-Perlora, Carranques and Huergas sections), Frasnian (Rodanas Fm), Spain (Tabuenca), Lower to Upper Frasnian (Nismes, Moulin Liénaux, Grand Breux, Valisettes, Lustin, Aisemont and Bovesse Fms), Ardenne (Flohimont, Nismes, Frasnes, Sourd d’Ave, Boussu-en-Fagne, Senzeille, Neuville, Marche, Barvaux, Presles, Engis, Huccorgne, Tournai, Vieux-Leuze sections); Lower Frasnian, Boulonnais; Givetian, Morocco and Saoura; Middle Devonian, Eifel and Ruhr; Lower Devonian and Givetian, Armorican Massif.
