Apotetamenus politus (Bruner, 1915) n. syn.
Redescription. Male. Head: Fastigium twice the width of the scape, eyes kidney-shaped. Frons slightly produced, clypeus triangular, labrum circular, shorter than the mandibles, maxillary palpus with apex slightly dilated. Frons with spot distribution similar to that described for A. gorochovi n. sp.; genae yellow. Thorax: Pronotum smooth covering the first tergite abdominal, posterior margin of the pronotal disc concave with humeral sinus obsolete, lateral margin with a yellow spot on the margin anterior. Prosternum armed. Mesosternum wider than long, constricted at the medial portion with a spine on each lobe, widely separated from each other. Metasternum with a broad medial incision, spines of the lateral lobes exposed in the ventral margin and close to each other, the space between concave. Fore legs. Base of the coxa armed with a spine, femur cylindrical unarmed; genicular lobes unarmed. Tibia with four spines on both sides of the ventral margin, dorsal surface with a single spine and three apical spines; tympanum open on both sides. Middle legs. Coxa with a blunt spine at the apex, femur unarmed, tibia with dorso-external margin with two spines and the dorso-internal margin with three; ventro-external margin with two spines and ventro-internal with four. Hind legs. Femur progressively thickened; genicular lobes unarmed. Abdomen. Tergites dark brown, pleurites and sternites light brown. Tenth tergite straight, lanceolate epiproct. Subgenital plate rectangular, without pseudo-styles, cerci cylindrical, tapering towards the apex.
Female: Similar in shape like the male. Ovipositor curved and the margins unarmed. Subgenital plate concave without truncated apex.
Variation. The coloration among the females varies from light brown to dark brown. The pronotum may cover only the first tergite or the second tergite, this depends on how the specimens are mounted.

Remarks. The designation of A. politus as synonym of A. clipeatus is proposed because the type series is apparently lost, since it was not found where it was said to be deposited in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Academy of Natural Sciences (ANSP), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Specimens were obtained from localities near the type and locality of A. politus n. syn. These specimens are all typical of A. clipeatus .
In the Muséum National d’Historie Naturelle (MNHN) Paris, France, there are two female specimens identified by Griffini, one from Argentina, Gran Chaco, Bords du rio Tapenaga, Colonie Florencia, and other from Brazil, Minas Gerais (see the MNHN web site).
