Range:— Antilles; Honduras to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC) and Brazil.
Ecology:— Common; terrestrial in humid forests, often along streams and on clayey soils ( Tuomisto & Ruokolainen 1994); mostly below 1000 m, but occasionally to 1550 m.
Notes:— Differs from superficially similar Dennstaedtia bipinnata ( Dennstaedtiaceae ) by its erect, scaly rhizomes and submarginal sori.
