Distribution in Iran. Ardabil ( Modarres Awal 1987), East Azarbaijan ( Baroughi 1978), Ghazvin, Tehran (Hoberlandt 1954), Golestan ( Heiss 2002), Khorasan ( Modarres Awal 2008), Kordestan ( Wagner 1961), Northern Iran (no locality cited) ( Lindberg 1938) [according to Lindberg, concerns H. guttatus , but see comments].

General distribution. Euro-Siberian.

Comments. The close species, H. guttatus (Rambur 1839) , which mainly lives in North Africa, is known from single localities in Spain, France, and Portugal.

According to Péricart (1998a), H. guttatus and H. superbus are good species with populations forming bridges between them.
