Type material. Heilipus fasciculatus Boheman, 1843 : we examined the images of the holotype ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ), undetermined sex, bearing the following label “ Typus (:); Brasil: inter. prope Minas Geraës. Bescke Mañerh:; NHRS–TOBI 000003218”, deposited in the NHRS.
Redescription. Length (pronotum and elytra) of males and females 7.4 to 8.7/7.0 to 9.6 mm, respectively. Integument opaque, with color varying from reddish-brown to black. Rostrum about 1.2 times longer than length of pronotum; about 5.3 times longer than apical width of rostrum in females, and about 4.4 times longer in males.
Thorax. Pronotum ( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 A–B) about 1.3 times wider than long, rounded sides, covered with large, rounded granules in central region and smaller granules, transverse, and inclined on sides; elongate and yellowish scales densely distributed on disc of pronotum, and between granules. Elytra ( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 A–B) about 1.6 times longer than wide, oblique tubercles distributed sparsely in interstriae, densely at humeri; with dark scales very short in interstriae, with tufts of larger, dark scales in front of each granule, especially in those located in interstriae 2 to 5; small clusters of yellowish scales distributed randomly and sparsely throughout elytra, higher concentration of elongate, yellow setae in posterior half, between striae 7 and 10; interstriae flat; apical elytral calli slightly elevated. Male genitalia. Median lobe of aedeagus ( Fig. 18J View FIGURE 18 ) strongly sclerotized, about 1.4 times shorter than median lobe apodemes, straight and narrow apical margin on sides, with row of short setae at apex; internal sac with spicules around sclerite; sclerite narrow, bifurcate ( Fig. 19I View FIGURE 19 ), with both projections pointed, inserted between apodemes, in apical part of internal sac. Tegmen ( Fig. 20I View FIGURE 20 ). Elongate with dorsal lobes subparallel, separated by about 1.6 times their length; manubrium about 1.9 times longer than dorsal lobes. Female genitalia ( Fig. 21I View FIGURE 21 ). Coxites with elongate setae near insertion of styli; styli densely covered with short setae at apex. Spermathecal duct of median length, inserted at beginning of posterior third of bursa copulatrix. Spermathecal capsule ( Fig. 22I View FIGURE 22 ) sclerotized, curved, collum elongate, and cornu elongate, rounded at apex, ramus non-prominent.

Geographical distribution. This species occurs in Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil ( Wibmer & O’Brien 1986). In Brazil it is recorded for the first time in Amazon Forest (Pará state), and in the Atlantic Forest (Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul states) ( Fig. 23J View FIGURE 23 ) .
Associated plants. Unknown.
Remarks. Heilus fasciculatus differs from the other species by the head and the pronotal disc with dense yellowish setae and by the coating of the elytra, which is composed of tufts of black setae distributed in the interstriae anteriorly to each of the granules.
