Bisaltes (Bisaltes) picticornis Galileo & Martins, 2003: 379 View in CoL . Syn. nov.

Remarks. Bisaltes (Bisaltes) picticornis was described based on two males from Bolivia (Beni and Santa Cruz). Audureau (2016) expanded the geographical distribution to Peru. According to Galileo & Martins (2003) (translated): “The color pattern of Bisaltes (B.) picticornis sp. nov. reminds us of the species of Ptericoptus and is unique in Bisaltes , with the center of the pronotum widely occupied by a black band. The only species that have this band are B. monticola Tippmann, 1960 and B. adustus ( Burmeister, 1865) but the body pubescence, in both species, is yellowish orange, the antennae have black integument, and the apical half of the elytra is entirely black.” However, the elytral and pronotal pubescent pattern in Bisaltes (Bisaltes) spegazzinii Bruch, 1911 is highly variable: the longitudinal yellowish-brown pubescent band on the center of the pronotum can be from very narrow (as in the holotype of B. (B.) picticornis – Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–14. 7–10 ) to very wide, making the black longitudinal bands very narrow, with several degrees linking these two extremes; the scutellum can be entirely black, entirely covered by yellowish-brown pubescence, or have a longitudinal yellowish-brown pubescent band; and the black central band on the anterior region of the elytra is variable in length and width, reaching from the apex of the anterior third to slightly beyond the middle. Furthermore, B. (B.) spegazzinii has already been recorded from Bolivia (now, including Peru). Therefore, we synonymize B. (B.) picticornis with B. (B.) spegazzinii ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 22–26. 22 ).
