Cryptocandona brehmi ( Klie, 1934)
( Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7. A )
1934 Candona brehmi n. sp. —Klie: 197, figs 11–14.
nov. comb. 1947 Cryptocandona brehmi ( Klie, 1934) —Bronshtein: 263.
Material examined. One female from a small seep at the edge of a footpath in a wooded valley at Deokgu-ri, Bukmyeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do (37º04′33.3″N, 129º15′27.6″E) (locality 2 on Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), 6 June 2011.
Remarks. This species has previously been reported twice, both times from Japan ( Klie 1934; Smith 2011). The one female recovered by us is 902 µm in length, slightly longer than the Japanese records (831–892 µm), and is as large as smaller specimens of Cryptocandona reducta (Alm, 1914) (which ranges from 900–1020 µm in length), a European species that it closely resembles. However, the relatively short lengths of the G3 and GM claws of the antennae, and relatively short Sp setae on the caudal rami indicate that our specimen is C. brehmi (see Namiotko & Danielopol 2002). Both antennules are symmetrical in our specimen, identical to the specimens recovered by Smith (2011) and different from the lectotype, which has an anomalous right antennule ( Namiotko & Danielopol 2002; Smith 2011). Only minor differences in lengths of claws on the antennae and the Sp setae on the caudal rami, and subtle differences in the amount of protrusion of the female genital lobe separate C. brehmi from C. reducta . It is possible that they are conspecific, with these differences reflecting intraspecific variations in two populations living at opposite sides of Eurasia.
