Material examined. Solomon Islands: SALOMON 1, DW 1774, 8°12.55’S – 160°41.66’E, 498–600 m, 28 September 2001: 1 male (49.1 x 55.0 mm) (MNHNB30725).
Remarks. Cyrtomaia horrida was described from the Philippines by Rathbun in 1916. The species was considered to be relatively rare, and all reports which include fresh material rarely cite more than one or two specimens (see Griffin 1976). Richer de Forges & Ng (2007b), however, showed that in the Philippines C. horrida is in fact very common on the steep slopes of coral islands in the Philippines between 270 and 900 m deep. The present record from Solomon Islands extends the known range of this species to the south.
