I cannot agree With the opinion expressed by M. Temminck (Mo nogr. II. p. 15), that the R. vulgaris above described is the female of this species. M. Fischer, in the “ Synops. Mammal.,” enUmerates the R. insignis as a synonym of R. speoris, Geoffr., Which determination is not in accordance With the aUthors on Vespertilionidae above cited. See Blyth, J. A. S. B. XIII. p. 489.
