Range: —Southern Mexico to Bolivia (BE, CH, CO, LP, SC) and the Guayana Highlands; Brazil.
Ecology: —Very common; epiphytic, rarely on rocks or in the leaf litter, in humid forests; (400) 900–2700 m.
Notes: —This forms a difficult species complex with S. adnatum , S. appressum , S. articulatum , and S.
polystichum.
