status

Serpocaulon latipes (Langsd. & Fisch.) A.R.Sm. View in CoL , Taxon 55(4): 928. 2006.

= Polypodium latipes Langsd. & Fisch., Pl. Voy. Russes Monde 10, t. 10. 1810.

Range: —Uncertain due to the unresolved taxonomy; southeastern Brazil; Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC).

Ecology: —Very common; epiphytic, rarely terrestrial, in humid forests; 1400–3400 m.

Notes: —This species is part of a taxonomically difficult group, involving S. concolorum , S. intricatum , and S. silvulae . Some collections cannot be reliably placed in any of these species. Both S. latipes and S. intricatum can be glabrous to sparsely hairy, and may comprise species complexes. Serpocaulon subandinum (Sodiro) A.R.Sm. , from Ecuador and Peru, might occur in Bolivia. It differs from S. latipes by rhizomes scales with narrower, darker margins and longer, filiform apices, and by bearing long, multicellular hairs on the rachises, costae and blade surfaces. Serpocaulon catharinae (Langsd. & Fisch.) A.R.Sm. , from Paraguay and eastern and central Brazil, might also occur in eastern Bolivia. It differs from S. latipes by narrower rhizome scales with long, filiform apices.
