Campyloneurum coarctatum (Kunze) Fée, Mém. Foug. View in CoL 5[Gen. Filic.]: 258. 1852.
= Polypodium coarctatum Kunze, Linnaea View in CoL 9: 39. 1834.
Range: — Costa Rica, Panama; Colombia and Venezuela to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC), central Brazil.
Ecology: —Uncommon, low epiphyte in humid forests; 200–1100 m.
Notes: —This species is closely related to Campyloneurum sphenodes , and some specimens representing C. coarctatum are misidentified as that in herbaria. Campyloneurum coarctatum is characterized by having distant phyllopodia on non-pruinose rhizomes, and broadly lanceate leaves, each with an abruptly decurrent blade base; its rhizome scales are strongly clathrate, with dark brown walls, and cell lumina are hyaline, very narrow, almost occluded (as in C. fuscosquamatum ), but petiolar length is shorter in the former, and the laminar base is long-decurrent. Campyloneurum coarctatum varies in rhizome scale length and cellular structure (thickness of walls), and it might include more than one taxon.
