Range: —Southern Mexico (Chiapas) to Panama; Dominican Republic; Colombia to Venezuela and Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic or terrestrial in wet montane forests, cloud forests, paramos; (2000) 2700–4200 m.
Notes: —Most similar to M. pilosissima (see under M. michaelis for further discussion), but according to Lehnert (2013), M. personata is a member of the M. moniliformis clade. In Bolivia, it is most similar to M. albicans (which see) and M. jimenezii , which lacks conspicuous hydathodes.
