Suralcis Machatschke, 1970: 158 , junior objective synonym

Type species: Trigonochilus coriaceus Brenske, 1896 , by monotypy.

Machatschke (1970) introduced the name Suralcis to replace Trigonochilus Brenske, 1896 , in reason of the homonymy of the later with Trigonochilus Agassiz, 1846 (Gyrinidae) , an unjustified emendation of Trigonocheilus Dejean, 1833 . However, Trigonocheilus Dejean is a nomen nudum ( Bousquet & Bouchard 2013) as it does not include any valid species name: the only included name “ rostratus De Hann” was not published. Thus, Trigonochilus Agassiz, 1846 is also a nomen nudum as it doesn’t include any available species name ( Gustafson & Miller 2013).

For these reasons, replacement of Trigonochilus Brenske, 1896 is superfluous, and Suralcis Machatschke, 1970 is a synonym of Trigonochilus Brenske.
