Trigonochilus oedipus ( Fairmaire, 1903) View in CoL
Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 A–E
Adoretus oedipus Fairmaire, 1903: 9 .
Trigonochilus oedipus: Ohaus, 1912: 416, 1918: 197 View in CoL .
Type material examined. Holotype ♂ ( Fig. 1D View FIGURES 1 ), “ Adoretus oedipus m. Madag / TYPE / Museum Paris Madagascar Coll. Leon Fairmaire 1906” ( MNHN).
Additional material. 1 ♂, “ Diego-Suarez ? [Antsiranana]” ( MNHN) ; 5 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀, “ Mt. d’Ambre [ Amber Moun- tains] Madagascar ” ( MNHN) ; 2 ♂♂, “ Montagne d’Ambre [idem] Madagascar ” ( MNHN) .
Female ( Fig. 1C View FIGURES 1 ). Similar to the male in colour and setation, but have a little wider elytra, obtuse posterior angles of pronotum (hind angles are somewhat protruding in males), shorter antennae, relatively slender metatibiae and metatarsi, well developed smaller claw of metatarsi (this claw is completely reduced in males), and rounded apical sternite of the abdomen.
Differential diagnosis. Trigonochilus oedipus differs from T. macrotarsus new species in a number of characters. The coloration of the head and pronotum is uniformly light brown. The elytra are yellow with dark brown sutural margins, base and humeri. The elytra are also more ovoid in this species (rather parallel-sided in T. macrotarsus new species). The legs are brown similar to the head and pronotum except for tarsi which are blackish brown. Apical margin of labrum with a short, pointed process medially, as opposed to a long, delated process in T. macrotarsus new species Metatarsi with only one claw in males. Aedeagus with parameres split at the apex ( Fig. 1B View FIGURES 1 ).
Distribution. Northernmost part of Madagascar: Antsiranana and Amber Mountains ( Fig. 1G View FIGURES 1 ).
