Trox novaecaledoniae Balthasar, 1966 View in CoL

Trox novae-caledoniae Balthasar, 1966: 184 View in CoL , Fig. 4.

Four paratypes are deposited in NMPC (ex coll. V. Balthasar):

PARATYPE (J): ‘ NEW CALEDONIA / Beach nr La Foa / 19. XI. 1958 [p] // Under dead fish / in sand [p] // C. R. Joyce / Collector [p] // Trox novae- / caledoniae n. sp. / Balthasar 66 [hw] / Paratypus [p, pink label] // Trox costatus Wied. / = T. novaecaledoniae / Balth. N. SYN. / Det. PITTINO 1985 [hw]’.

PARATYPES (3 unsexed specimens): ‘ NEW CALEDONIA / Beach nr La Foa / 19. XI. 1958 [p] // Under dead fish / in sand [p] // C. R. Joyce / Collector [p] // Trox novae- / caledoniae n. sp. / Balthasar 66 [hw] / Paratypus [p, pink label]’.

Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Omorgus (Omorgus) suberosus (Fabricius, 1775) , see SCHOLTZ (1986, 1990).

Remark. Five paratypes were originally housed in coll. Balthasar ( BALTHASAR 1966) but we found only four paratypes.Although Pittino indicated this species as a junior subjective synonym of Trox costatus Wiedemann, 1823 [currently Omorgus (Afromorgus) costatus ], SCHOLTZ (1986, 1990) reported it as a junior subjective synonym of Omorgus (Omorgus) suberosus .
