( Figs. 22 View FIGURE 22 , 32 A,B View FIGURE 32 )
Edessa suturata var. (b) subandina Breddin 1904: 135–136 ; Kirkaldy, 1909: 165.
Edessa subandina . Lectotype female. Esmeralda, Venez [ Venezuela]/ Bison Er. / Edessa Suturata Dall View in CoL / DEI Hemimetabola #100292 ( SDEI). Examined by photos. ( Fig. 22 D View FIGURE 22 )
Diagnosis. Dorsal surface of the body olive green ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ). Ventral surface brown with transversal black lines on thorax and abdomen ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Antennae brown ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ). Pronotum with punctures brown ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ); anterolateral margin and cicatrices with brown punctures ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ). Humeral angles short (1,3 times wider than long) ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ), apices brown ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ); humeral angle brown spot expanding into the pronotum in dorsal view and restricted to the angle in ventral view ( Fig. 22 A,B View FIGURE 22 ). Scutellum with punctures brown ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ); apex not reach end of corium ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ). Corium with all veins concolorous with surface ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ). Posterolateral angles of connexivum with apices black ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ); connexival segments with concavities almost entirely covered by subrectangular black spots and separated by a large yellow median spot ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ); spots extending ventrally, subrectangular ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Ventral surface. Thorax with black stripes ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ); dark stripe of the propleuron covering 2/3 of the width of the sclerite ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Evaporatorium concolorous with thorax ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Metasternal process ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ) with anterior apex straight and laterally little expanded, margin acuminated; anterior face somewhat excavated; anterior bifurcation receiving fourth rostral segment. Legs brown ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Abdomen with spine of third segment acuminated ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Intersegmental areas solid black reaching ventral spots of connexivum ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Pseudosutures solid black, continuous, solid and regular border ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Median longitudinal black band incomplete ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ). Trichobotria parallel to the spiracle. Posterolateral angles of segment VII not reaching level of the apices of laterotergites IX in females ( Fig. 22 C View FIGURE 22 ). Female genitalia, valvifers VIII with a brown band near the tumescence ( Fig. 22 C View FIGURE 22 ). Laterotergites VIII with two dark spots on outer lateral margins ( Fig. 22 C View FIGURE 22 ).
Male genitalia: Unknown.
Female genitalia: Valvifers VIII with dark punctures; inner margins contiguous and not divergent; distal margin brown and arched. Laterotergites IX with apices acuminate passing the sclerite uniting laterotergites VIII ( Fig. 22 C View FIGURE 22 ).
Comments. Edessa (E.) subandina is similar to E. (E.) electa , E. (E.) nigricornis and E. (E.) nigroangulata because of the shape and size of the humeral angle ( Figs. 22 A View FIGURE 22 , 25 C View FIGURE 25 , 28 C View FIGURE 28 ). However, E. (E.) subandina can be easily separated from the others by the large spots on connexival segments ( Fig. 22 A View FIGURE 22 ), complete black stripes on ventral side of abdomen ( Fig. 22 B View FIGURE 22 ), and a small stripe on valvifers VIII close to distal margin ( Fig. 22 C View FIGURE 22 ). The specimen was examined by photos of the lectotype female. The photos were taken by Stephan Blank (SDEI).
Distribution ( Fig. 32 A,B View FIGURE 32 ): VENEZUELA: Amazonas.
