Homoneura (Neohomoneura) biconcava View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 33 , 34–38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 )

Diagnosis. Wing with basal extremity of brown subapical spot on R4+5 before vertical level of spots on R2+3 and M1, slightly connected with brown spot on dm-cu; a brown cloud on dm-cu, constricted at middle. Abdomen yellow, tergites 2–6 each with black posterior margin, tergites 4–6 each with a brown triangular median spot confluent with black posterior margin.

Description. MALE. Body length 6.1 mm, wing length 5.8 mm.

Head yellow. Frons about as long as wide and parallel–sided, with 2 pale brown stripes extending to ocellar triangle; ocellar triangle pale brown with short setulae behind oc; oc developed, about as long as anterior or; gena about 1/5 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere 1.7 times as long as high; arista dark except brownish base, with longest setula slightly longer than height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis yellow, with yellowish and blackish setulae; palpus yellow, with blackish setulae.

Thorax brownish yellow. Mesonotum with 0+3 dc, acr in 8 somewhat irregular rows, uniformly short setula– like; prsc longer than anteriormost dc; 1 strong sa with a long and thin setula (shorter than 1/2 length of sa) behind sa. Legs yellow except tarsomeres 3–5 pale brown. Fore femur with 5 strong pv, 8 pd, and ctenidium with 15 short setae; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 6 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad, 7 short p and 3 strong apv. Hind femur with 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 weak preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 33 ) slightly yellow, a brown apical spot on R2+3 confluent with subapical spots on R4+5 and M1; basal extremity of brown subapical spot on R4+5 before vertical level of spots on R2+3 and M1, slightly connected with brown spot on dm-cu; subapical spot on M1 confluent with apical 1/2 of brown subapical spot on R4+5; a brown cloud on dm-cu, constricted at middle; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 3.2 mm: 0.9 mm: 0.6 mm; r-m before middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 2.0 mm: 2.9 mm; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/7 of penultimate. Halter yellow.

Abdomen yellow, tergites 2–6 with black posterior margins and tergites 4–6 each with a brown triangular median spot confluent with black posterior margin. Male genitalia ( Figs. 34–38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ): protandrium more or less U– shaped, not a complete ring; epandrium with three pairs of long dorsal setae, dorsal and ventral margins each with a subapical concavity; surstylus triangular with dense tiny setulae; hypandrium nearly Y–shaped, gonopod slender subuliform in ventral view but broad columnar in lateral view; aedeagal apodeme shorter than aedeagus, aedeagus curved forward and nearly S–shaped in lateral view, with a pair of triangular basal processes slightly extending outwards and a pair of acuate triangular dorsoapical processes in lateral view.

FEMALE. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype ♂ ( CAUC), CHINA: Guangdong Province: Ruyuan, Nanling, 26. III. 2003, Ding Yang.

Distribution. China (Guangdong).

Remarks. The species is somewhat similar to Homoneura (Neohomoneura) tricuspidata Shi & Yang from China (Hainan) in the following characters: wing with basal extremity of brown subapical spot on R4+5 before vertical level of apical spot on R2+3; male abdominal tergites 2–6 each with black posterior margin, tergites 4–6 each with a brown triangular median spot confluent with black posterior margin; surstylus with dense tiny setulae. But it can be separated from the latter by the basal extremity of the brown subapical spot on R4+5 being slightly connected with the brown spot on dm-cu; a brown cloud present on dm-cu, constricted at middle; the surstylus having no short acuate tip, the aedeagus having a pair of acuate triangular dorsoapical processes. In H. (N.) tricuspidata , the basal extremity of brown subapical spot on R4+5 is far from the brown spot on dm-cu; a brown stripe–like spot is on dmcu, not constricted at middle; the surstylus has a short acuate tip, the aedeagus has two furcated lateral processes subapically in the ventral view ( Shi & Yang, 2008).

Etymology. Latin, bi-, prefix meaning two + concava, meaning concave, referring to dorsal and ventral margin of the epandrium each with a subapical concavity; a feminine adjective.
