Type locality. — Borneo, E Sabah, Danum Valley.

Type material.— Holotype ♂ from the type locality, Danum Valley Field Centre, primary forest , ground trap at foot of buttress tree, 10-15.v. 1991, C.L. Deeleman and M. Goodnight; paratypes: 1 ♂ same data , 1 ♂ in dung trap, Andrew Davis 1991, 1 ♂, 1 ♀, ground trap in forest which was partly logged 12 years earlier and 1 ♂ in primary unlogged forest, same data, 1989-1990, Th. Borghouts .

Other material. — Borneo, E Kalimantan, N of Balikpapan , 1 ♂ “Sepaku”, stand of degraded primary rainforest, leaf litter, 16.vii. 1979, PR. Deeleman ; Samboga, N of Balikpapan , 1 ♂, secondary light forest, leaf litter, 6.viii. 1980, P.R. and C.L. Deeleman; SE Kalimantan, Aranio district, 2 ♀, primary forest of Gunung Pisang, 5 km S of Belangiang village, 60 km SE of Banjarmasin , 200-250 m, sifting leaf litter, 11-15.xi.1996, M. Kuntner ( SIW) . Two males from the type locality from pitfall traps (1989-1990) were sacrificed to making SEM pictures (Platnick, Bonaldo).

Diagnosis.— Very similar to S. borneensis , distinct by the nodule-covered area of carapace which is extended over the entire surface including the centre; nodules are rounded, larger, higher and denser. Differences in the male palp are slight: the lower branch of the tibial apophysis is longer and distal margin partly straight. In females the difference in the vulva is obvious, compare fig. 755 View Figs 753 - 756 and fig. 751 View Figs 745 - 752 .

Description. — MALE, holotype. Total length 3.70 mm, other males from Danum and other localities 3.60-4.00 mm. Carapace length 1.80 mm, width 1.35 mm, height at coxae II 0.60 mm, head width 0.80 mm, width eye group 0.55 mm; abdomen 1.90 mm long including collar, 1.20 mm wide. Leg lengths: leg I 4.70 mm (1.25-1.75-1.00-0.70), leg II 4.10 mm (1.15-1.45-0.85-0.65), leg III 3.60 mm (1.00-1.15-0.90-0.55), leg IV 5.65 mm (1.50-1.75-1.50-0.90), palp 0.62-0.25-0.50 including apophysis- 0.75 mm. Carapace, sternum and mouthparts dark reddish brown, entirely covered with dense rows of nodules ( fig. 753 View Figs 753 - 756 ), leg colouring stereotyped as in borneensis . Dorsal scutum uniform chestnut, smooth and shiny, distally dark grey with white spot in front of anal tubercle; abdomen with white underside and a dark circle around spinnerets. Anterior eyes equal and close together, AME 11/ 2 x d ALE; posterior eye row faintly procurved, posterior eyes roughly equidistant; PME not smaller than other eyes. Leg spination: spines rather small compared with other species, femur I with 0-1-0pl, femur IV proximally with a larger dorsal spine, tibia I basically with 6 ventral pairs, tibia II with 5, but frequently loss of spines occurs, uni- or bilaterally; tibia III with 0-2-0v, tibia IV with 1-2-0 or 0-2-0 and and 0-0-1 rl, metatarsi I and II with 2-2-2-2v, metatarsus III with 2-0v and 0-1 rl, metatarsus IV with 2- 2v or 1-2v and 0-1 rl. Dorsal scutum covering almost all of abdomen (scutum incomplete in the male from Sepaku), collar of ventral scutum with three grooves. Palp ( figs 737, 754 View Figs 753 - 756 ) very similar to that of borneensis , for differences see diagnosis; embolus as long as in borneensis .

FEMALE, paratype. Total length 5.00 mm (females from Gunung Pisang 6.25 and 6.75 mm respectively). Carapace length 2.50 mm, width 1.80 mm, head width 1.10 mm, width eye group 0.55 mm; abdomen 2.80 mm long, 2.10 mm wide, epigyne 0.45 mm wide, 0.45 mm long. Leg lengths: leg I 5.90 mm (1.70-2.20-1.25-0.75), leg II 5.50 mm (1.70-1.90 1.10-0.80), leg III 4.60 mm (1.25-1.50-1.10-0.75), leg IV 6.80 mm (1.75-2.25-1.80-1.00), palp 0.75-0.30-0.40- 0.70 mm. Carapace, eyes, mouthparts, sternum and legs as in the ♂; abdomen covered with scutum over 2/ 3 in the middle a pair of round light spots with a central black dot, posterior dorsum dark grey with white pre-anal spot, sides dark grey with white band just behind ventral scutum. Epigyne longer than wide, openings located posterolaterally ( fig. 755 View Figs 753 - 756 ), vulva fig. 756 View Figs 753 - 756 , spermathecae relatively small and wide apart. In females from Mount Pisang, the spermathecae are a little larger Distribution.— At present only known from Borneo in a zone of forest, primary and degraded, of appr. 100 km stretching all along the eastern coast. See also distribution of borneensis . Etymology. — From Latin bulbus, bulb: bearing bulbs (nodules) on the carapace.
