Symmorphus tsushimanus Yamane, 1990
Symmorphus tsushimanus Yamane, 1990: 128 –30, ♂ (holotype), Japan: Tsushima Is.: Top of Ariake-san (558 m alt.) (Osaka Museum of Natural History); Kurzenko, 1995: 315; Kim & Lee, 2002: 285, 293–294; Kim & Lee, 2006: 29, 37–38; Kim, 2014: 96.
Materials examined. [ Japan] ♂, top of Ariake-san, Tsushima Is., 4.vii.1975, Y. Miyatake (holotype) . [ Korea] ♂, Mt. Joggyesan , Jeollanam-do, 23.v.1988, Jung.
Redescription. Male. Structure. Body length ca. 7.5 mm, forewing length ca. 7.1 mm. Inter-antennal area dully tuberculate, but not forming a longitudinal carina. Clypeus setose, relatively much broader than long, ca. 1.3 × as broad as long, with apical margin very slightly emarginated; apical teeth spaced slightly more than interantennal distance ( Figs. 3D View FIGURE 3 and 12A View FIGURE 12 ). Tyloides not keeled, lower faces of flagellomeres 9–11 broadly and weakly raised and flagellomere 8 medially raised obsoletely; apical flagellomere ca. 0.9 × as long as broad at base, and almost same as preceding segment in ventral length ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Occipital carina well developed throughout and more strongly raised in lateral side. Pronotal carina well developed except for dorsomedian interruption. Humeral angle not distinctly produced, slightly less than right angle in dorsal view. Notaulices well developed without interruption, broadened posteriad in apical half. Epicnemial carina well developed. Propodeal superior shelf ca. 2.2 × trans-scutal sulcus length. Median propodeal pit round in shape, without distinct inner ridge. Propodeal submedian carina lost in lower lateral portion of propodeal posterior face. Propodeal valvula completely merging distally into submarginal carina, not distinctly produced posteriorly. Metasomal tergum 1 with transverse carina strongly raised throughout and broadly incised medially; postcarinal area much transverse, ca. 0.52 × as long as broad at apex; lateral margins very slightly divergent posteriad, width at transverse carina ca. 0.83 apical width; medially deeply impressed, but lacking inner sulcus. Median longitudinal (interrupted by foveae) and lateral oblique ridges on metasomal sternum 1 well developed, and area between them foveate-reticulate or areolate, without longitudinal ridges.
Sculpture. Frons largely punctate-punctulate (lower portion and ocular sinus partially areolate or punctatereticulate). Inter-ocellar area and median portion of vertex punctate-punctulate, with major punctures moderate. Gena with irregular and moderate punctures. Clypeus sparsely to moderately punctate-punctulate. Upper marginal portion of anterior vertical face of pronotum primarily finely striate, but medially punctuate-striate; pronotal dorsum densely punctate, but punctures moderate in posterior portion; lateral side primarily finely carinate, with upper portion areolate. Mesoscutum punctate-punctulate, except for punctulate central portion and outer area of notauli, with major punctures deep and somewhat regular in size and distribution. Epicnemium punctulate; large anterior portion of dorsal mesepisternum punctulate, remaining posterior portion somewhat polished with several sparse punctures; anterior portion of ventral mesepisternum densely punctate-punctulate, but somewhat polished and moderately to sparsely punctate in posterior portion; mesepimeron moderately punctate ( Fig. 3E View FIGURE 3 ). Dorsum of mesoscutellum moderately punctate, deeply excavated (not throughout mesoscutellar length) and punctatereticulate centrally, and posterior vertical face punctate-reticulate. Entire dorsum and upper half of posterior sloping face of metanotum foveate-reticulate, lower half of posterior sloping face punctulate. Metapleuron rugose. Propodeal dorsum foveate-reticulate; propodeal side rugose, and foveate-reticulate or areolate in broad marginal portion; posterior face finely carinate. Precarinal area of metasomal tergum 1 punctulate; dorsum of postcarinal area primarily foveate-reticulate to partially areolate.
Coloration. Body largely black, following parts/markings yellow: basal half of clypeus, inter-antennal spot, lower face of antennal scape (marking basally expanded), tiny postocular dot, paired dorsomedian spots on pronotum, small spot on dorsal mesepisternum, very small spot on tegula posteriorly, fore and mid femur apically, outer faces of tibia and basitarsus of fore leg, inner face of mid tibiae, apical bands on metasomal terga 1–5 (band on tergum 3 interrupted medially), apical band on metasomal sternum 2 interrupted medially. All tarsomeres brownish. Tyloides of flagellomeres yellowish brown.
Female. Unknown.
Remarks. A Korean specimen, the only known non-type material of this species (♂, S Korea: Mt. Joggyesan, Jeollnam-do, 23.v.1988, Jung), is almost the same as the type in structure and coloration, but different in the following details. Apical flagellomere slightly longer, ca. 0.85 × as long as broad and very slightly shorter than preceding segment in ventral length; very weakly raised tyloides present also on flagellomere 8. Postcarinal area of metasomal tergum 1 slightly less transverse, ca. 0.58 × as long as broad at base; median longitudinal impression in postcarinal area almost absent. Basal maculation on clypeus more extended and having paired black dots inside; tergum 6 also with short apical band.
