Fig. 1a
Material examined: Holotype. ♀, labelled “ India: Kerala : Calicut Dt., Devagiri (11°15'50.2"N 75°50'30.0"E), 25.V.2017, light, Divya M. ”, in ZSI-Ca. GoogleMaps
Measurements: Female (mm; Holotype). TL = 9.5, HL =1.3, HW = 1.7, PL = 2.2, PW = 2.4, EL = 6.0, EW = 4.3
Description. Length 9.5 mm
Colour: Head, pronotum and elytra black; antennomeres black and palpomeres brownish red, anterior half of 4th maxillary and labial palpomeres black, rest brownish red.
Head: Small, shiny, slightly convex in the middle, narrower than pronotum, strongly bulging eyes, long and deep frontal furrows reaching about the level of posterior margin of eye. Labrum small, angles weakly rounded, smooth, anterior margin strongly emarginated, 4 long setae present on anterior margin, both ends of anterior margin with bunch of mini brush like setae. Clypeus smooth, with single long setae on either sides, straight margin. Apical labial and maxillary palpomeres moderately expanded apically. Mandibles fairly short, tip not crossing each other. Vertex roughly punctured. Mentum with subrectangular blunt median tooth, submentum bears 6 setae. Genae briefly setose, gula shiny. Antennae elongate, segments black.
Pronotum: Transverse, wider than head, Dorsal and ventral side roughly punctured and covered by greyish yellow coloured setae, straight anterior and posterior margins, narrowly rounded to the anterior corners, broadest at centre, expands behind the middle, posterior corners obtuse. The lateral marginal edge of the pronotum extremely thin, anterior corner strongly bent. Lateral margin rounded at the middle and sinuate behind the middle. Prosternal process conical with narrow base without margin.
Scutellum: triangular, smooth.
Metepisterna considerably longer than broad; strongly punctured.
Elytra: Long, highly convex, weakly ovoid, covered with greyish yellow coloured setae, Striae with deep punctures, Intervals weakly convex and punctured, equal in width, apex obliquely truncate and weakly emarginated. Elytral suture line has a narrow gap at the apex and not closed. Projected humerus weakly sloping, slightly rounded on the sides. Widest behind the middle.
Hind wing: fully grown.
Legs: Tarsi hairy dorsally and ventrally, thick patch of setae covered in ventral side of all tarsal segments.
Remarks: Euschizomerus devagiriensis sp. nov. is distinguishable from E. aeneus with slender prosternal process weakly pointed towards apex in contrast to the broad and apically rounded prosternal process in E. aeneus and the lateral margin of pronotum rounded medially while broadly expanded in E. aeneus .
Etymology. Toponym. It refers to the type locality and host institution.
