Following recent studies on the molecular systematics of the Lucinoidea by Williams et al. (2004), the Thyasiridae can no longer be considered as a family of the Lucinoidea but appear to have closer affinity with the basal heterodonts such as the Astartidae and Crassatellidae . At this time the Thyasiridae have not been given any superfamily status and we consequently do not attempt to further define the family position.
