Exechiopsis (Xenexechia) Tuomikoski View in CoL

Exechiopsis View in CoL , subg. Xenexechia Tuomikoski 1966: 179. Type-species, Exechia perspicua Johannsen View in CoL (orig. des.).

E. bifida ( Freeman) 1951: 90 View in CoL , fig. 172 (♂ terminalia) ( Exechia View in CoL ). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Lago Gutiérrez. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 204 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and one male paratype, both of which are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “ Exechia / bifida [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ L. Gutierrez / 3–14.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254460”. The holotype is in good condition and only the tip of the abdomen has been removed. The paratype collection number is BMNH(E) # 254461 .

E. brevifurcata ( Freeman) 1951: 90 , figs. 174 (♂ terminalia), 293 (wing) ( Exechia ). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Lago Gutiérrez. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 205 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, eleven male and seven female paratypes. The labels with the holotype are: “ Exechia / brevifurcata [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ L. Gutierrez / 3–14.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254442”. The holotype is in good condition, the right hindleg missing; only tip of the abdomen of the holotype has been removed to prepare the terminalia. There are nine male (one of which also with the terminalia dissected) and six female paratypes, and two specimens with the abdomen missing ( BMNH (E) # 254443-59) .

E. extensa ( Freeman) 1951: 91 , fig. 171 (♂ terminalia) ( Exechia ). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Casa Pangue. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 206 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included only the male holotype. Its labels are: “ Exechia / extensa [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Casa Pangue / 4–10.xii.1926.” // “S. Chile / Llanquihue prov. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254440”. The holotype is in excellent condition. Only the tip of the abdomen of the holotype has been removed and the terminalia dissected.

E. funerea ( Freeman) 1951: 91 , fig. 175 (♂ terminalia) ( Exechia ). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Lago Correntoso. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 207 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, eight male and one female paratypes. The labels with the holotype are: “ Exechia / funerea [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Lago Correntoso. / 18–25.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Río Negro / F. & M. Edwards. / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254462”. The holotype is in fairly good condition. The forelegs are missing and the entire abdomen removed, but only the terminalia is at the preparation on the plastic board. There are six male and three female paratypes ( BMNH (E) # 254463-71) in the type series, one male with the terminalia dissected. One specimen without locality label received a “no type status” label from N.P. Wyatt 2002 .

E. furcilla ( Freeman) 1954: 29 , fig. 1 (♂ terminalia) ( Exechia ). Type-locality: Juan Fernandez Isl. , Masafuera Isl. , Masafuera, Quebrada de las Casas. Holotype ♂, UC.

( Figure 208 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and three female paratypes. The labels with the holotype are: “ Exechia / furcilla [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Juan Fernandez / Masafuera [pr] / Q. d. las Casas / 30.1.1952.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254472”. The holotype is in excellent condition. The tip of the abdomen of the holotype was removed and dissected with the terminalia on the plastic board. The original publication stated that the type would be at the Universidad de Chile, in Santiago, but the holotype is at the NHM .

E. setigera ( Freeman) 1954: 89 , fig. 170 (♂ terminalia) ( Exechia ). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Lago Gutiérrez. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 209 View FIGURES 200–213 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, five male and five female paratypes, of which the holotype, four male and three female paratypes, and a paratype with the abdomen missing are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “ Exechia / setigera [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia dissected on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ L. Gutierrez / 3–14.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 254431”. The holotype is in excellent condition, the tip of the abdomen together with the male terminalia were dissected. The paratypes are numbered BMNH(E) # 254432-9, and one male has the terminalia mounted on a separate acetate sheet .
