Mycomya (Mycomya) Rondani View in CoL

Mycomya Rondani 1856: 194 View in CoL . Type-species, Sciophila marginata Meigen View in CoL (mon.).

M. bifida Freeman 1951: 34 View in CoL , figs. 18 (♂ terminalia), 78 (midcoxal process). Type-locality: Argentina, Rio Negro, Lago Correntoso. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 149 View FIGURES 143–151 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, six male and nine female paratypes, of which the holotype, five male and seven female paratypes are at the NHM. The labels on the holotype are: “ Mycomya / bifida [hw] /

Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] //

HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Lago Correntoso. / 18–25.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257453”. The holotype is in good condition and the paratypes are mostly in excellent condition (one with the male terminalia dissected) ( BMNH (E) # 257454-65) .

M. chilensis (Blanchard) 1852: 357 View in CoL ( Sciophila View in CoL ). Type-locality: Coquimbo. Ref.— Freeman 1951: 32, figs. 10, 12 (♂ terminalia), 75 (midcoxal process).

( Figure 150 View FIGURES 143–151 )

Notes. Blanchard’s type of this species is probably lost. There are many specimens at the NHM identified as M. chilensis , used by Freeman (1951) in his monography of the Mycetophilidae of South Chile and Patagonia. For the time being, these specimens are our most educated guess about the identity of this species.

M. lamellata Freeman 1951: 35 View in CoL , figs. 19 (♂ terminalia), 76 (midcoxal process). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Puerto Blest. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 151 View FIGURES 143–151 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and two male paratypes, all of which are at the NHM . The labels with the holotype are: “ Mycomya / lamellata [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Nahuel Huapi, / Puerto Blest. / 2–3.xii.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257466”. The holotype is in excellent condition. Both paratypes have the terminalia dissected and mounted on the acetate sheet ( BMNH (E) # 257467-8) .

M. ochracea Freeman 1951: 34 View in CoL , figs. 15, 17 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Peulla. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 152 View FIGURES 152–161 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, six male and six female paratypes, of which the holotype, five male and five female paratypes are at the NHM. The holotype labels are: “ Mycomya / ochracea [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Peulla / 12–19.xii.1926.” // “S. Chile: / Llanquihue Prov. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257453”. The holotype is in good condition. Two males have the terminalia dissected. The paratype collection numbers are BMNH(E) # 257443-52 .

M. simillima Freeman 1951: 33 View in CoL , fig. 11 (9 th abdominal tergite). Type-locality: Argentina, Rio Negro, Lago Gutiérrez. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 153 View FIGURES 152–161 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and six male paratypes, of which the holotype and five paratypes are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are as follows: “ Mycomya / simillima [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Lago Gutierrez / 3–14.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257409”. The holotype has one fore- and one midlegs missing, but is in good condition. All paratypes ( BMNH (E) # 257410-4) are in good condition, one of them with the terminalia mounted .

M. subfusca Freeman 1951: 33 View in CoL , figs. 14, 16 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Argentina, Rio Negro, Lago Correntoso. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 154 View FIGURES 152–161 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, fourteen male and seventeen female paratypes, of which the holotype, twelve male and thirteen female paratypes, as well as one specimen with the distal half of the abdomen missing, are at the NHM. The labels of the holotype are: “ Mycomya / subfusca [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Lago Correntoso. / 18–25.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257415”. The holotype is in fair condition. One fore-, one mid-, and one hindlegs and one of the wings are missing; one of the antennae is broken. The paratypes are numbered BMNH(E) # 251416-41, three of them with the terminalia dissected; some of the paratypes are in excellent condition .
